Quick Overview

Our #2605 Saxophone Dent System is a uniquely designed tool for easily inserting and positioning dent balls inside the main body section of alto or tenor saxophones.

The system includes:

  • 1 - Dent Rod
  • 1 - Flex Cable
  • 8 - Dent Balls with Rack

The dent rod is made using heavy wall steel tube with a length of 36" (91cm) and O.D. of 0.75" (19.05mm).

The flex cable has a length of 6' (1.83m) and diameter of 0.25" (6.35mm). Threaded ferrule on end has a thread size of 3/8-16 for attaching dent balls.

The set of eight dent balls are precision machined and profiled to provide the best combination for use with either a dent hammer or for raking. A 3/8-16 threaded hole is machined into one end of the ball for attachment to the flex coil. The other end is counterbored 0.750" (19.05mm) diameter to allow the ball to slide up over the end of the dent rod. The standard thread size also allows use of these dent balls with any size dent rod with a 3/8-16 thread size.

The set includes six barrel shape balls and two round balls. Barrel shapes are designed for the main body section and diameters graduate from 1.0" (25.4mm) up to 2.0" (50.8mm). Length is 1.5" (38.1mm). The two round balls have diameters of 1.5" (38.1mm) and 1.75" (44.45mm) and are ideal for working the bow area. Balls are made from quality, corrosion resistant, stainless steel.

Clamp the dent rod in a vise with the flex cable running through and out the front end of the rod (see top of page) . Position the neck receiver end of the saxophone onto the dent rod (as with any 3/4" dent rod, it may be necessary to remove the octave vent tube) and then feed the flexible cable through the body of the sax, around the bow, and out the bell.

Select one of the dent balls and screw it onto the end of the flex coil. Pull the flex cable back through the rod, bringing the dent ball through the bell and up into the main body and onto the dent rod. The end of the dent ball is counter bored so as to allow it to fit up over the end of the dent rod. A thumb screw on the dent rod secures the cable and locks the dent ball in place.

The technician can now work the dent out in the usual manner by either raking or using a dent hammer. And because the rod is made using heavy wall tubing (0.250"), 'rebounding' also works great.

Whether pushing up dents on a quick make play job or doing complete overhauls, the Saxophone Dent System offers an excellent, time saving solution. And remember that the set of dent balls can also be used on any dent rod your shop may already have that has an 3/8-16 thread size.
